Review & Swatches: NYX Simply Vamp Lip Cream Collection

Hey everyone! I recently purchased all six shades from NYX's Simply Vamp Lip Cream collection. It was completely by accident, I swear! Now that I have them, and Fall makeup is upon us, I thought I'd share the swatches and a mini review with you!

  • Enamored: NYX's website describes this as "Deep Brown with Burgundy Pearl." I'm actually a big fan of this shade! I didn't think I would love it, but it's one of my favorites in the group. I know brown is not for everyone, but it looks great on. I haven't seen the new Viva Glam Rihanna 2 in person, but from photos, Enamored reminds me of a darker version of that shade.
  • Temptress: "Deep Royal Purple." I looooove purple lipsticks, so this is another favorite of mine. None of my purples are as dark as this, so it's a welcome addition to my collection. I'm going to get a TON of use out of this one!
  • Aphrodisiac: "Light Brown Plum." This one goes on really creamy. It feels great on my lips, and I'm loving the shade!
  • Bewitching: "Burgundy with Blue Undertone." I love this color, but it's sooooo creamy, that it starts to move around a little too much. I've worn it out a couple of times and I have to pay too much attention to my lips during the day, which I'm not a fan of. I like makeup I don't have to think about. If you guys love this one anyway, I would just suggest trying to wear it with a lip liner...I haven't tried that yet, but I will next time. Plus, it arrived kind-of damaged, so it's hard to apply. I know it was cheap, but I hate crappy packaging.
  • Covet: "Light Rust with Red Pearl." I think NYX needs to come out with more of these pearl finish lip products. Maybe they already have and I'm just behind the times. But I'm in love with the finish and this shade is so pretty!
  • She Devil: "Deep Plum." This one is the darkest of the group. It was the first one I tried wearing, and I wore it to work. It's definitely way too dark for my job, and I would never wear it to work again! But outside of work...I'm all over this shade.

Review: Makeup Geek Vegas Collection

I thought I loved Makeup Geek before...that was just the tip of the ice berg! I'm in LOVE with the new collection! I didn't know if I would be ordering anything at all, but once I saw the palette and pigments, I knew resistance would be futile. That may seem a little dramatic, but just keep scrolling down. You'll understand. And then, Marlena announced on YouTube that they would be offering bundle deals for the collection. So naturally, I ordered the bundle. Oopsie!

The Palette: Six full-sized shadows are included. The packaging has a very Old-Vegas feel, which I love. It's sturdy cardboard, and has a good-sized mirror. It's a pretty neutral palette, with the only non-neutral being Roulette - which reminds me a little of MAC's Cranberry. I like the mix of matte, satin, and shimmer.  Desert Sands is probably my favorite shade. It's a great transition color, and I don't have anything like it in my collection. It's kind-of a brown mustard shade - very different from the normal transition shade. Sin City is also gorgeous. It reminds me of Sugarpill's Asteria (LE) and MAC's Firespot (LE). Mirage is perfect as a brow bone highlight for my skin tone. And it will also be great as a lid shade.  I believe Bada Bing had previously been released, and I never got it because it's more glittery than what I usually buy. But it's a good addition to this palette and I actually liked it quite a bit when I used it. Casino is probably my least favorite, but it's still pretty. I just don't find it to be AS pigmented as I would expect from MUG.

The Pigments: Ugggggggh! I'm so glad I got these! Every last one of the pigments is gorgeous! I'll post close-ups below, so you can see them each in their full glory. They are amazing! My favorite is Vegas Lights - it's a gorgeous deep coppery brown. I'm just in love! Poker Face is a really pretty brown, and I'll have to compare it later with MAC's Brown pigment - I think they may be very similar. Liquid Gold had also been released previously. I didn't get it because I thought it might be similar to Sugarpill's Goldilux, which I already have and love. However, they are VERY different from each other. So I'm glad I went for the bundle, because this is a definite must-have! Nightlife is a very interesting mauvey/taupey shade. I'm looking forward to playing with this one. Jackpot is a light, golden yellow. It's great as an all-over lid color.

The look I came up with using the entire palette as well as the Poker Face pigment.

Mood Monday: Big Fat Loser

Guys I'm such a horrible person...

Long story short: I have a huge project I'm working on, and it's taken up all of my time and energy (Details coming soon...be on the look out).  I know I keep saying, "I'm back to blogging!" and then I disappear. So I can't make any promises, because my life is so hectic right now. But I'm trying! I have ideas, I have posts started, I have photos taken, I have unedited videos...I just haven't had the time to put it all together in a way that I am happy with. So thanks for being patient with me and sticking around. It means a lot to me that I do have support from a lot of you out there. I just really feel like a neglectful turd lately. I cannot apologize enough!!

One bit of good news: Last weekend, we went to visit some family in L.A., and I got to take my dad to see Paul McCartney. This is probably the only item that has ever been on my dad's bucket list. So treating him to the concert was a huge blessing, and I feel so lucky to have shared that experience with him. My dad is a HUGE Beatles fan, and has been since they first hit the scene. He grew up in Chile, where he collected all the Beatles records (all the liner notes are in Spanish...he still has them). He dressed like the Beatles. My dad was Beatlemania. When we were kids, we listened to a radio show with him every week called "Breakfast  with the Beatles." On my wedding day, I danced with my dad to a Beatles song called "In My Life." We didn't have the best seats in the house, but neither of us cared. Listening to all of our favorite songs together was one of the highlights of my life. I'll never forget that night!

EOTD

I've told you guys before about my great friend Angela (@BeautyNtheGym on Instagram). Not only is she a great friend, but she's an amazing makeup artist. I love seeing her work, and recently, I've been wanting to do a look inspired by her. So when I saw her beautiful orange and yellow look on Instagram, I knew it was my duty to recreate it! The color placement is what most intrigued me, and the fact that I was really into yellow shadow that week. Her under-brow yellow was more of a stripe, and I went for more of a blob. But I was super happy with the end result. I know it's not for everyone, but I was in love & I hope y'all like it too!

  • Crease: Anastasia Beverly Hills Orange Soda and MAC Goldenrod.
  • Lid: Sugarpill Butter Cupcake (yellow) and Flamepoint (orange)
  • Brow Blob (yes, that's a technical term): Butter Cupcake
  • Inner Corner: Butter Cupcake mixed with My Pretty Zombie Miasma.
  • Waterline:  Maybelline Eye Studio Gel Liner in Blackest Black.
  • Lower Lash Line: Butter Cupcake (inner half) Anastasia Beverly Hills Sienna (outer half).
  • Liner: Benefit They're Real Push Up Liner.
  • Mascara: Too Faced Better Than Sex & Tarte Lights Camera Lashes.
  • Brow:  Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in Ebony.
  • Lips: MAC Haute Altitude (LE) & Lime Crime Babette.

Buy/Bye: Dolce & Gabbana Perfect Matte Liquid Foundation

I've been in full-out USE UP EVERYTHING I HAVE mode lately. There are a couple of things I want to purchase/repurchase from Lush, but to justify buying more stuff, I need to use up what I have. That includes samples. So I started this series, in which I try a sample, and then let you know whether I will be buying it in the future, or waving good-bye forever.

It's been really hard for me to find a foundation I'm 100% happy with. My skin actually seems to repel most foundations, and there are only two I've found that I mostly like: MAC's Studio Fix Fluid, and Kat Von D's Lock-It Fluid.  With both foundations, I've had trouble finding the perfect shade, which is my main complaint. The KVD one lasts longer than MAC, but it's too heavy for every day in my opinion.

I've gotten other foundation samples before, but none of them was worth writing home about. So when I received this Dolce & Gabbana sample, I really didn't even want to try it. BUT I did. For the sake of blog research ;)

The Pros:
  • The coverage: Perfection. It looks like my skin, but better. Full, non-cakey coverage.
  • Lasting power: Looked great all day, even in the heat.
  • The perfect shade: I've never found a foundation that is so close to my own skin tone.

Not too thick, not too thin.

The Cons:
  • The Price: $67.  Holy crap.
The Verdict:
I would like to say I would never spend that kind of money on foundation. However, it's absolutely THE perfect foundation. I'm really torn on this one. If I happen to receive Sephora gift cards for my birthday (right around the corner, thankfully), or for Christmas...I will probably cave and purchase it. UNLESS, by some miracle, my brain allows me to forget how amazing and perfect and beautiful this foundation is. So I can't say I'll run out and buy this right now...but I definitely can't say bye, either!

This is me wearing the foundation. I was much happier than I look.

Mood Mondays: Refreshed and Ready to Rock!

Hey everyone! I'm so sorry I went missing last week. I've mentioned this before, but I do get migraines now and then.  Last weekend, one hit me hard. I get frequent headaches, but this was the mother of them all. I've tried it all...cold packs, hot compresses, aromatherapy, herbs, prescriptions... The only thing that really fixes it is a few days of good sleep and staying very hydrated (which sometimes interferes with sleeping through the night, but whatever). So that's where I've been the past few days. I really can't skip work, so I've been just saving all my energy for the day time. Now, I'm feeling a TON better, so I'm getting back into the swing of things.

This past week, I focused on my health. After day 2 of Giant Headache, I laid off the caffeine - I've learned that if a little caffeine doesn't take care of my headaches within a couple of days, it will actually make them worse. Since I needed to drink a ton of water, but didn't want to drink plain boring water all week, I picked up some lemon sparkling water with my groceries. Sadly, I think they used Pledge to achieve the lemon flavor. It was nasty!

I also picked up some healthy lunch options for work. I don't ever talk about this on my blog, but I've been trying to eat a lot healthier since I started my new job. In fact, since February, I've lost almost 10 pounds, and most of that is food choices. I really don't work out as much as I would like, because honestly I'd rather spend that time with my husband - it's not very often I'm home alone.

Saturday, I woke up feeling pretty good. I took care of some housework, and filmed a new video. Plus, I finally had a latte. Annnnd, I made the best fajitas EVER! So Saturday was a good day :)

Sunday, my husband and I took a quick road trip to Lake Las Vegas. We had a great time despite the ridiculous heat. The place was nearly completely empty. We saw very few people walking around, so it was nice and quiet. It was such a relaxing day. We hadn't been up there yet, so it was good to get out and explore a new place. Plus, we had a great lunch! I rarely eat pasta, so when I do, it always tastes like the best pasta I ever had. Since I've been feeling so icky, I decided to make it a pasta day. And it was delicious! When we got home, we each picked a couch and knocked out for a couple of hours. I love Sundays, because they're our only day off together. And this Sunday was great!

After a relaxing and semi-productive weekend, I'm ready to take on the week and get back to normal! Don't forget to visit Vero's blog if you'd like to participate in Mood Monday!

From Beach Bum to Boardwalk Babe

Hey everyone! I'm super excited to bring you this post, because it's a huge collaboration with several amazing bloggers. Thanks so much to Tanya at Leopard Lace and Cheesecake for setting this up!

I grew up in California, so I'm no stranger to trying to look presentable after a day at the beach. Plus, my husband and I love going to beachy destinations on vacation. We don't live near any beaches now, but there are  plenty of pools to satisfy my beach bum needs ;)

After the beach (or pool, in my case), we usually go somewhere local for snacks and drinks. Since I don't like to look like a bum (never not glamorous, duh!), I always bring along a few items to touch up a little before heading out. Here is what I usually bring along to get myself looking more like a mermaid than something the ocean spit up:

  • Tarte BB Cream in Medium: This provides a really nice coverage without looking like you have heavy makeup on. I wear this any time I go to the pool, so I just touch up a little when we head out.
  • Lime Crime Velvetine in Pink Velvet: This is a liquid lipstick, which is perfect for throwing in a beach bag because you don't have to worry about it melting. Plus, it provides excellent and long-lasting coverage. I love makeup I don't have to worry about!
  • Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in Ebony: I used to never fill in my brows. Now that I do, I look weird to myself with them. This stuff is pretty resilient, but I like to have it in case I wipe half a brow off. Can't go to dinner with a brow and a half!
  • Systane lid wipes: Not a makeup item, but an essential none the less. I use this to clean up any smudged eye shadow. And since it's one little wipe, I don't have to carry a whole pack of wipes with me (Find these at your pharmacy/drugstore next to the contact lens solution).
  • Urban Decay 24/7 Pencil in Rockstar: This is what I wear in my waterline and to tight-line whenever I go to the pool. So I bring it along to touch up just in case. It's a pretty dark brown shade, so it's not overly dramatic for daytime.
  • Bobby Pins & a Hair Tie: I hate wearing my hair up, but sometimes, it leaves me no other choice. I always have these just in case!

The finished product!
Please take a minute to visit all the girls who participated in this collab:

Swatch Fest: My Pretty Zombie Cosmetics

My Pretty Zombie is a newish-to-me brand. I tried one of their shadows for the first time a couple of months ago. Recently, they had a big sale, so I took the opportunity to purchase a couple more shades. If you guys aren't familiar with this brand, check out Tori/Biohazardous Beauty on YouTube. She uses their shadows pretty frequently, AND her eye is used for all the swatches on myprettyzombie.com. I just wanted to share the swatches of my current stash, I really love them all and can't wait to start putting my new shadows to use!

Natural light, no flash.

TOP ROW:
  • Epistaxis eye shadow: Described on the website as a "matte fresh nosebleed red." I know...sounds a little strange. But you'll start to see a theme with their product names.
  • Moist eye shadow: "A shimmery creamsicle orange." Y'all know I love orange eye shadow, and this one definitely does not disappoint! It's sooooo pretty!!
  • Miasma eye shadow: "Buttercup yellow with a sweet pink shift." This one is really unique. It's a must have! There is another picture showing the yellow tones further down.

MIDDLE ROW:
  • Celery and Bile eye shadow: "Celery with an orange-y gold shift." Lucky me, I got a sample of this one in each order. I actually love it, and I'm surprised I didn't remember to buy it when I placed my second order. I was overwhelmed...lol.
  • Mary Jane eye shadow: "Mid tone grey green with a red shift." I also received this as a sample. It's actually quite gorgeous. It's not something I would've chosen for myself, because the photo on the website doesn't do it justice. But in person, it's stunning.
  • Ojo de Gato eye shadow: No description available on the website, since this was an LE shade. This was my first MPZ purchase, and I love it! It's what I'm wearing in my Beach Waves tutorial. It's a dark greenish brown with a copper shift. I absolutely love it! Plus, all proceeds from this shadow went to Blind Cat Rescue...so I had to get it!

BOTTOM ROW:
  • Propoxyphene Blush: "Matte bubble gum pink." I received this as a sample. It looks like a soft cotton-candy pink in the baggie, but swatches more like a Barbie pink. It's very pretty, I would just apply it with a very light hand and build it up if I had to.
  • Benzodiazepine Blush: "red, red, red." That pretty much sums it up! This was a sample as well. Again, I would apply it very lightly to start, but it's super pretty. It does have somewhere between a satin and shimmer finish but it's not glittery at all.
A different angle...tried to capture some of the color shifts.

Mood Mondays: Coffee, and Other Amazing Things

I spent a good part of this weekend getting myself caffeinated. Sounds fun, right? It totally was. I love my morning coffee. On week days, my husband spoils me rotten and brings me a cup every morning when I'm getting ready for work.  I usually manage to drink half a cup before I have to run out the door. On weekends, I put my big girl pants on and make my own coffee! Haha. Weekends are my time to catch up on all the half-cups I didn't have time to drink during the week.

Saturdays are my favorite day of the week. It's the one day I have to stay home and relax. I usually kick back with a latte, find new hair and face masks on Pinterest, and succeed in getting coconut oil all over the bathroom. This past weekend was no exception. And here's proof:

You can't tell from the photo, but my hair was absorbing a ridiculous amount of coconut and avocado oil at the time. And I had a sample of Glam Glow Youth Mud to use, so I didn't have to come up with my own concoction this time.

Saturday afternoons, I do my filming for YouTube. This week, only one of the two videos I filmed was completely out of focus, so I consider that a success! I recently got a new camera, and I'm still trying to get the hang of it. I've been scrapping videos left and right lately. But I found a new trick to get myself focused, so hopefully it'll be smooth sailing from now on. I've been so thrilled with my camera!! Here are a couple test shots:

I love to have flowers in my kitchen.

Our neighbors gave us a free show for the 4th!
Sundays are the only day my husband and I are both off work. Some days, we head to brunch or to a pool. Some Sundays are more lazy, and we stay home. When I'm home, I try to get ready for the week. That usually includes packing lunches for work, doing laundry or dishes, and getting some blog posts started (does anyone else have an endless lists of drafts?!) The past couple of months, I've really had so much going on, and haven't gotten to blog quite as much as I used to. But things have started to settle down lately, so I have more things closer to being finished than before.

This Sunday, I woke up to probably the best surprise on Earth:

I can't tell you how many times I'm doing my makeup like, "Wayne Goss does this..." He's such a HUGE inspiration. I love his videos, his honesty, and his personality. So this was a special Sunday for me. Now that the week is off to such an amazing start...I'm ready to take on the world!

Wishing you all an amazing week! Don't forget to check out Vero Says to see more Mood Monday posts and link up!

Favorites & Unfavorites (With Video): June 2014

Once upon a time, circa six weeks ago, I was saying, "My no-buy is going so well, I might extend it into June!" Then I remembered Makeup Geek. And everything fell apart. It's so funny, because my first purchase after each of my no-buys this year has been from Makeup Geek. I didn't do it on purpose...they just called to me! That got the ball rolling, but I didn't do tooooo bad. Swathes of everything will be at the end of the post. Here's what I enjoyed most this month:

  • Makeup Geek  Eye Shadow in Razzleberry: This is such a gorgeous shade! I've already used it a few times and it's just so beautiful. Like with other MUG shadows, it's super pigmented and blends beautifully.
  • Makeup Geek  Pigment in Utopia: I was so excited when this pigment was restocked! I've been wanting it for sooooo long!! And it came just in time for a night out, so I got to use it right away. It's absolutely beautiful...a must-have!!
  • Makeup Geek  Blushes in Infatuation and Smitten: Since I love MUG shadows so much, I jumped for joy when they released blushes! I only got two, but I already want more. Infatuation is a deeper shade, perfect for bronzing. Smitten is a beautiful apricot shade...so great for Summer! Like the shadows, they are very pigmented yet blend out to the perfect mix of coverage and not-look-like-a-clown-ness. Highly recommend.
  • MAC Cosmetics Lipstick in Dodgy Girl: Part of the Kelly Osbourne for MAC collection, this shade is Kelly's signature lavender. It pulls a little pink on me, but I LOVE it! The girls at my job are very low-key when it comes to makeup. The only time any of them has complimented me in my over four months there was when I wore this lipstick. So that says something! If you saw my latest Empties video on YouTube, this is what I was wearing.
  • MAC Cosmetics Mineralized Skin Finish in Refresh: This was part of Sharon Osbourne's half of the collection. I've never had an MSF before, and holy cow I think I need more! This looks gorgeous on my skin. I've used an obscene amount of this product since it landed in my hot little hands. I'm in love!
  • MAC Cosmetics Lipstick in Flat Out Fabulous: I saw this on YouTube, featured by NitraaB on her favorites from last month. I immediately paused the video so I could purchase it. I have problems...I know. But this lipstick is so gorgeous! I'm definitely glad for this impulse buy :)
  • Stila Magnificent Metal Eye Shadow in Kitten: I got this as part of a try-it Summer Set from Sephora. There were a variety of goodies in there, and shadow was one of the reasons I purchased it. I'd been wanting to try it, but I was borderline scared to. I used it with Razzleberry and it looked killer!! I've used it for all-over lid sparkle, inner corner highlight, and blown out on the lower lash line. I just love it.
  • Urban Decay All-Nighter setting spray: Another goodie from the try-it Summer Set from Sephora (I don't remember the name of the set, so I made up my own, by the way). Since UD and I don't really get along too well, I was surprised that I liked this. My only gripe is that the spray doesn't travel far. You have to spray it really close to your face to get any product, but too close, and you get a blast of wetness.
  • Benefit They're Real Push-Up Liner: I wasn't going to buy this. Then Sephora released it for 24 hours only. A normal person would say..."they'll release it again soon, don't worry." My brain said, "BUYITBUYITBUYITBUYIT." I listened to my own unreasonable brain. But I'm so glad I did! This liner has gotten pretty blah reviews, but I really like it. I've had ZERO issues with caking, flaking, or drying before finishing my wing. I'm hoping the formula stays consistent until the tube is empty...we shall see.
  • Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara: OMG. I already posted my First Impression on this, so I won't say too much except that you need this mascara in your life!
  • Essence of Beauty Fine Crease Brush: This came as part of a set of two crease brushes. It was around $2.50 from CVS. I had been wanting a pencil brush to use for smudging out eye shadow under my lower lash line. The one I wanted was always sold out online, so I'd like to thank Sigma for saving me a lot of money by never having it in stock. I love this little brush! It's really changed my lower lash line forever!!

  • MAC Cosmetics Lipstick in Strip Poker: Also part of the Kelly Osbourne collection. This one is really light, and I have to work with it a little to make it work for me. Plus the formula is very strange. It feels creamy when applied but looks super dry. It's not a total disaster, but it's not a favorite.
  • Be A Bombshell Lash Out mascara: If you guys saw my latest Empties video, you already know the issue I had with this mascara. In case you missed it, it smells like death, rotten eggs, and socks that have been worn for a year straight without being washed. All rolled into one tube. Disgusting. Plus there was some speculation that it was contaminated. So I tossed it, which is why it's not pictured.

NOTD

Hey everyone! In my last Mood Mondays post, I talked about letting go of a toxic friendship situation. Part of the letting go was having to find a new nail lady. As luck would have it,  one of my co-workers always has amazing nails. She was nice enough to pass along her information, and just in time, because my previous mani had grown out like crazy and I found a really cute picture on Pinterest! This is what I ended up with:

Not only am I super happy with the result, but I loved the nail salon itself. Plus, it's less than five minutes from work. As opposed to my previous place, which was twenty minutes away. So I'm a happy camper!! As usual, this is a gel mani, so I don't know what colors were used. But if you're looking for a pretty pink, OPI's I Pink I Love You is pretty close to this. And the glitter is very close to Milani's Gold Glitz.

Mood Mondays: A Little More Gratitude, A Little Less Attitude.

I'm loving these Mood Mondays posts! I started blogging as a way to chat about beauty products, but these posts are such a great way to share a different side of me too. This week, it's helping me vent a little. Key word...vent!! I've never had a rant session on my blog before, and I don't plan to again. I actually really debated on whether or not to blog about this situation, but I decided...this is what's going on in my life, and I'm going to just let it out and then move on! If you don't want to read my little rant, that's perfectly ok! This is a mini therapy session for me :)

I'm a big believer in the saying that goes, "you're judged by the company you keep." My mom used to tell me that, but the Spanish version is something like, "tell me who you know, and I'll tell you who you are." It all boils down to the same basic idea...surround yourself with people who have qualities you value, and would be proud of. As I get older, I'm more and more careful of who I let into "the circle." Especially being married, I feel like the people closest to me can only be people who respect my relationship, my values, and my home. At my last job, I became friends with a girl who appeared to be someone like that at first. The more time went on, the more it became evident that she was the opposite. She became very rude, making fun of everything I did - from the nail polish I chose, to what I ate, to more personal/moral beliefs. Everything I mentioned that I liked, she scoffed at. It was like she was trying to tear me down in an effort to make me possibly want to get her approval...? I don't even know. She's actually the reason I never talk about my blog or my YouTube on my Instagram...I just didn't want to hear her negative comments regarding something I love doing so much. Every time I talked to her, she was fighting with someone - friends, coworkers, relatives, the person at the McDonald's drive thru...no one was safe. Going out in public with her became increasingly more embarrassing due to the way she treated complete strangers. I found myself leaving extra-large tips for servers when we would go out to restaurants, because I felt bad for what they had to deal with.

After one particular comment she made regarding my relationship, I decided this was not a friendship I wanted to be a part of anymore. I began trying to distance myself. However, the more I pushed away, the more ... what's the word ... psychotic she became. Calling and texting at all hours. Calling several times in a row if I didn't answer my phone (even though it's common knowledge I don't answer my phone at work or after 10 p.m. - awake or no - texting numerous times in a row, paragraphs at a time. One friend of mine even compared her to a crazy controlling boyfriend! So I finally decided...instead of just attempting to distance myself, it was time to be straightforward and put it all out there. I don't need to invite that kind of attitude into my inner circle. Someone who is going to belittle the most important relationship I have has no right to be called a friend. Now that I've made the decision to cut ties with this person, I feel pure gratitude towards my mother, for instilling that saying in my little brain.

It's always difficult to come to the decision to let someone go from your life. But you have to stop and think...
  • Is this person looking out for my best interest?
  • Is this someone I'm comfortable hanging out with?
  • Is this someone that respects me, my decisions, and my beliefs?
Of course it's not logical to think that someone is going to like everything you like, and dislike everything you dislike. But there's a difference between stating an opinion and belittling others for not being exactly like you. Hopefully, none of you have to deal with making a similar decision. But just know that even though there are people out there who are not truly there for you...there are plenty of others who will stick by you and truly be supportive. Thanks for bearing with me through my rant :)

First Impression: Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara

Better than WHAT? Ok, ok....Unless you've been living under a rock, or you hate lashes, I'm sure you've already heard of this mascara. I think when I purchased it, the Sephora gods said, "finally!" I actually got a trial size of this mascara as part of Sephora's Lash Stash To Go set. I'd been wanting to find a trial size for a while. So when I found the Lash Stash set, which includes five trial sizes for $25 AND a voucher you can use to get a free full-size of your favorite mascara from the stash, I jumped on it. The reason I wanted a trial size was that I didn't believe any mascara could be THAT amazing...

Natural lashes. Just a little brown liner on the bottom water line & nothing else.

After one application, top & bottom.

Two applications, top & bottom.

Three applications, top & bottom.

Closer comparison of natural lashes vs final result.
The Pros:
  • Adds length, volume, and fullness.
  • Super black.
  • Even though the brush is rather thick, it's easy to apply on the lower lashes without making a mess.
The Cons:
  • The first use out of the tube was a little too wet. It looked pretty clumpy and I wasn't sure it would even work. But it's been smooth sailing since the first use.
The Verdict:
After trying this mascara, I've hardly even touched the other four mascaras in the set. I think it's absolutely amazing! It does everything!! It's not one you really have to pair with another mascara to get a great result. That being said, I'm a little psychotic about lashes and I do pair it with others. I would definitely purchase this mascara. I'll definitely try the rest of the Lash Stash mascaras before deciding on which one to trade my voucher for. But so far...I'd be surprised if anything beats this one!

Guest Post: PHAMExpo Product Purchase Review

I'm thrilled to bring you a new guest post from my good friend and fellow YouTuber, Eddie MC.  I've known Eddie for most of my life and have always seen her as part-sibling. So when she texted me one day telling me she was thinking of starting on YouTube, I was beyond excited. Especially because it was right when I was getting ready to start my channel as well.  She's been a major help in getting my channel started, she's been there when I needed to vent about not hitting RECORD, or when it took me over 48 hours go get a video uploaded...and I'm just super proud of her for taking the leap to start YouTube. You guys just have to check her out...she talks about everything from beauty, to DIY projects, to advice with major life decisions. And for a young'un, she gives excellent advice! Plus she posts very regularly. Here is her review on the products she got at PHAMExpo, and a link to her video will be down at the bottom. Definitely visit her...she's got some cool things coming up!!

Hello beautiful people!
I’m so excited to be a guest blogger, no pressure! So let’s get started  =)
All of the products were purchased at PHAMExpo, so without further ado…

1. Miss Adoro Eyelash Curler. I LOVE IT! I honestly can’t remember the last time I bought an eyelash curler (no judgment) but now I don’t need to. It didn’t pinch the crap out of my lashes or pull them out, and it gave my lashes an amazing curl.

2. Making You Cosmetics Lip Gloss. I think the color is Diva… but I’m not too sure. I was hesitant due to its brown shimmery hue. It appeared to make my lips dark which was expected but it wasn’t bad. It’s more of a winter color because of its darker shade and it has shimmers up the butt so if you’re into that then this is a product for you!

3. Sedona Eye Shadows. Now unfortunately because they are samples they don’t have names, so I made up my own. Up first we have Sedona Copper, which has great color payoff (I was pleasantly surprised). Cream Soda is meh. It looks like an orange Sweetie but I’m sure it doesn’t taste as good. It has an orange undertone but all I got was a white matte color. It could be used as a base and that’s exactly what I plan on using it for, maybe even a brow highlight. Cotton Candy, well the name says it all. It’s a bright pink but wearable when worn correctly. It has a hint of shimmer in the pan but I didn’t see much shimmer on my lid, which doesn’t bother me, in fact that’s what makes it wearable. Lastly, Eddie’s Room is a shimmery turquoise that sucks. It wasn’t very pigmented and there was TONS of fallout. If you don’t believe me check out the video.

4. Makeup Geek Eye Shadow in Razzleberry. I am so happy to finally own a Makeup Geek product. This shadow is beautiful! It is super pigmented and applies really well. I can’t wait to buy more.

5. Morphe B15 Eye Shadow Brush. This brush wasn’t bad. I needed a brush for an all purpose application to the lid so this works just fine.

6. Bdellium 787 Crease Brush. I’ve never owned or worked with a crease brush before so I feel like I need practice lol but the brush is soft.

7. Real Techniques Accent & Detailer Brush. Ok so these were freebies so I’m not even sure if they’re actual size or not but those little guys sure do work lol. I admit, I don’t know what an accent brush is used for but I’ll figure it out, and if not I’ll improvise.

8. China Glaze No-Chip Top Coat. You know those days when you spend an hour doing your nails and one chips the next day only to discover it while you’re driving, and suddenly all of your rage goes towards that one nail instead of the poop face that’s going 55 mph in the fast lane?!… How much does that suck? Well hopefully this won’t happen. I didn’t personally use this yet but I used it on my mom and this is what I noticed A) The brush is small, be prepared to spend another hour applying topcoat B) As you pull out the brush you swipe it against the bottle to remove excess polish, but as I was applying it to my mom’s nails a blob of it slowly made its way from who knows where and plopped right on the table. The verdict: It is not chlorine proof and acts as a secondary varnish for your table. DO NOT REMOVE WITH ACETONE.

Mood Monday: Pitiful & Pampered

Hey everyone. Thursday afternoon, I was drinking tea at work. My co-worker looks at me and says, "what's with the tea? You're not getting sick, are you?" Well that proved to be the kiss of death. Friday, my throat seemed weird all day. Towards the end of the day, my other co-worker says, "if you're gonna get sick, do it on the weekend. Saturday & Sunday only! Monday, you come back to work!" Wouldn't you know it...as soon as I got home Friday, my throat was on fire! I woke up on Saturday feeling like I had secretly swallowed sandpaper in my sleep. If there's one thing I hate, it's being home alone and feeling sickly. It makes me feel so little and pitiful! So I decided to treat myself to a home spa day.

I started off my Saturday with a latte. The reason my foot is next to my latte, is that I was sitting at the edge of my bed doing something I rarely do: watching a soccer game! Chile vs Brazil. Since I was born in Chile, this was a must-watch. Sadly, my team didn't pull through, but they gave Brazil a run for their money! While watching the game, I deep conditioned my hair and used my Origins charcoal mask. Neither of these processes were documented. My sick face was not camera ready!

After rinsing out my hair and face masks, I decided I was ready for a new pedicure. Even though I'd just painted my nails last weekend (with help from Instagram and my friends via text, I chose that bright orange), I had received my first Deborah Lippmann polish recently, and it was begging to be used. I decided to go full-on mermaid treasure chest, and used Milani's Gold Glitz, and Jacqueline by Zoya. I was so happy with the outcome!

Then I ate fajitas and knocked out on the couch until my husband came home! Sunday was the worst day of my life!!!! Thankfully, Sunday is my husband's day off, so he was here with me to make sure I was still breathing. I was so super sick...y'all don't need to know the details. But when I woke up today, the first thing I said was, "babe...I made it!" I seriously thought I was dying. Lol.

FOTD: Orange is the New Black Pt. 1

I'm beyond obsessed with the show Orange is the New Black.  I started watching the first season when it came out because I was bored. And the next day, I had finished the entire season. The second season just came out and obviously, I'm already done watching it. I've been thinking...what am I gonna do until next season!? Then it hit me. Fill the void with makeup. So here is my first look in the series:

Crease: Orange Soda from the Anastasia Beverly Hills Lavish Palette
Lid: Maybelline Color Tattoo in Fierce & Tangy as base, topped with Flame Point by Sugarpill.
Inner corner highlight: Fire Opal from Bare Minerals (Not sure if this is still available).
Lower lash line: Flame Point, blended out with Orange Soda.
Water line: Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Pencil in Rockstar.
Lashes: Bare Minerals High Definition Mascara.
Liner: Benefit They're Real! Push Up Liner (AWESOME, by the way!)

And not that you can tell, but my brows are Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in Ebony. Stay tuned for more looks inspired by Orange is the New Black! I'll try not to include any spoilers, but I would encourage you to finish season 2 ASAP, just in case I spill some secrets ;)

Mood Mondays: Grateful

I grew up with a fairly tiny family...one that has gotten smaller over time. Seems a little backwards, but we're shrinking! Those of us left at the core have become closer through the years. I can say that even though we had our share of issues, we are closer now than ever.

Being from a tiny family, my brain went into shock when I married into my husband's mega huge family! I still don't understand how so many people can be related to each other! Lol. His family is enormous, and they have all been very welcoming to me. A few of the cousins were in town over the weekend, and we got to visit with them.

Any time he or I have family in town, it's such a treat. I always hear about people not getting along with their in-laws, and I'm such a lucky girl, because I don't know what that's like! I'm so grateful to not only be part of a family that loves me and my sweet hubbs, but to have married into a family that has treated me like one of their own from day one. And the fact that they all come visit us often is an added bonus!

NOTD

Hey everyone! I've been a terrible blogger lately, and I feel so rotten about it. I'm trying to get back into the swing of things now, so hopefully you will be seeing me regularly not only on my own blog, but in a comment section near you! I miss all my blogger friends and even though I keep in touch with a few of you on Instagram, it's just not the same. (p.s. If I haven't found you on Instagram yet, come find me: @cellapaz) Onto what you all came here to see...my current mani:

I've been rather subdued lately, with either dark or nude manis. So I decided to go super bright this time. As usual, this is gel and I don't know the color. But I know China Glaze and Sinful Colors have similar (if not identical) shades. It's so perfect for summer! I'm loving my highlighter mani so far!

Ipsy Glam Bag (With Video): June 2014

Did I just type JUNE?! Good lord, time flies. And spoiler alert, this month's bag is probably one of my favorites EVER. The bag itself, not so much. Looks like a Tommy Bahama reject.

My husband and I have this deal worked out where he will never shop at Tommy Bahama, and I will never shop at Chico's. But that's neither here nor there. Because what's inside the bag this month is soooo good!!

  • NYX Butter Gloss in Eclair (swatched below): This is something I've been wanting to try for such a long time, so I was thrilled to receive it. The texture is so creamy, it smells amazing, and it's really pretty. It's very sheer, so I definitely wouldn't wear it on its own, but it'll be a great addition over some lipsticks I already own.

  • Marc Anthony Dream Waves Beach Spray: Everyone knows how much I love my Not Your Mother's Beach Babe spray...so I am both excited and nervous to try this stuff. I definitely do want to give it a fair try, and will probably be posting a full review after I've had a chance to use it a few times.
  • Nicka K Shimmer Liner in Green (swatched below): This is really pretty, but I may or may not use it. And here's why. After I swatched it on my hand, I discovered it is nearly impossible to remove! I did use just a regular makeup wipe, but I scrubbed and scrubbed, and I don't think my hand will ever be the same. I totally spaced on trying my Lush Ultrabland cleanser to remove it. So I'll have to try that sometime and see what happens. If it works, I will use this liner to DEATH, because it's just beautiful!

  • Be A Bombshell Mascara in Lash Out: This comes at a perfect time, because I just started to clean out my mascara drawer (it's just a Muji drawer...it's not that serious). I've been realizing that a lot of my older mascaras are just past their prime and I've been holding on to a dream, trying to re-live the excitement of when they were brand new and not dried out. But it's time to let go. So getting a new mascara was at the very top of my to-do list, and now I don't even have to do it anymore! Score! The brush looks pretty basic, but I will give it a shot and let ya know what I think!

  • Derma Doctor DD Cream (swatched below): No shade on this one, as the packaging says it's supposed to be self-adjusting. I never believe those claims, but I'm going to try this anyway. I've been using BB and CC creams instead of the regular foundation for my daytime face lately. That may not seem like a big deal to you, but it's a big deal for my face. So even though  I'm a little skeptical on this one, I'm going to use it.
Nicka K Shimmer Liner
NYX Butter Gloss
Derma Doctor DD Cream

And that's it! I know I'll use all of these items quite a bit. Unless they make my hair fall out or my skin permanently green. Then I'll only use them once.
