Favorites and Unfavorites: February 2014

This was a short little month, but it saw a LOT of action...completely by accident. First, let's get to my favorite part...the Favorites, of course!

  • Lorac Pro Palette: I'm so glad my friend sent this to me! It's been a great addition to my collection. There was only one shade in the whole palette I didn't really care for. Other than eyes are happy.
  • Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Brush #12: Obviously, I loved this brush. I wrote more in-depth about it recently, so I won't bore you with how great I think it is. ;)
  • Lush Tea Tree Water and Ultrabland Cleanser: I'm loving Lush more and more these days. My skin is  eternally grateful to them, and I've been loving these two products! Tea Tree Water is a toner, and Ultrabland is a cleanser/makeup remover. I will write more about these in a skin care post coming up.
  • Dose of Colors Lip Gloss in Attitude: I've gotten so much use out of this gloss! I meant to save it til Spring, but it's been over 70 degrees here, so I cheated. Oh well! Even though I don't feel like it's a stand-alone gloss as everyone else out there seems to think, I use it over Mac's Snob, and it gives me the most perfect Barbie lips ever.
  • Eyetini Shadow Tint in Spiced Rum: I didn't think I'd love this as much as I do, but I was pleasantly surprised. It served as a great base and also looks great on its own. Thanks Ipsy!
  • City Color Be Matte Blush in Fresh Melon: Another Ipsy item in my favorites for the month! I'm on a roll!! This blush is absolutely gorgeous and I just love the texture. It looks great on. I even used it on my eyes as a transition shade a couple of times, for more coppery and pink looks. It worked really well for me.
  • Kat Von D Esperanza Palette: Holy moly, this palette is awesome! It was my first KVD eye shadow purchase, and I'm super happy so far. I'll have a full review on this soon. For now, let me just tell's a must have!

I don't have any true unfavorites, but I do have an "eh" item. siiiiigh...

  • Dose of Colors Lipstick in Dark Secrets:  I do like this lipstick, but the color is way more red-toned than I expected. Also, it stains like crazy. It's just not as amazing as all the reviews I've seen of the brand's other lipsticks. I will probably still try more of their products some day. This shade just sadly isn't going to be a go-to like I hoped it would be. BUT, it's still use-able and I know it won't be going to waste.

Feel free to link to your monthly faves in the comments below!

Get This (or This!)/Not That

Welcome to another edition of Get This/Not that. This one is ultra special, because there are TWO of "this," and one of "that." Now, I'm no expert...this is just based on my personal opinion of what has worked (and not worked) for me. But I love doing these posts, so I hope you enjoy them as well!

Get This (or This!)
  • Anastasia Beverly Hills Duo Ended Brow Brush #12: $18 at Ulta or Sephora. I really hesitated to get this brush, because I already owned both of the other things I'll be talking about. But since I recently purchased her brow pomade, I thought...maybe it's one of those things where it works best if you use all their products. YES, folks. This is how I talk myself into buying new things. Anyway, I really love this brush. It quickly took over as my favorite brow brush. I do use it with her brow pomade in Ebony on the ends of my brows. Then I use my other "get this" brush on the rest of my brows with my MUFE Aqua Brow #25. It makes defining my brows SO easy! The one thing I don't like about it is that the spoolie end doesn't have a cap. I keep my brows standing in a cup, so this is the only brush I have to keep separate, because I don't want to ruin the spoolie. I just keep it with my brow products, but I don't really like doing that.
ABH #12: You can see how flat it is in the reflection.

  • SOHO Brow Brush: $12 at CVS as part of the "Smokey Eye Set." This may or may not be intended as a brow brush. I bought it in a set of three brushes. I fell in love with it as a brow brush, though. If I hadn't met the ABH brush, this would be my favorite. As a matter of fact, before that ABH brush came along, I had no idea my life was missing anything. This brush is almost the exact same in width and length. The main thing I don't like as much is that it's not as flat. So you really have to be careful to not get a thicker line than you want.
Soho Brush. You can see the bristles aren't as neat as the
ABH brush. But pretty close to the same brush.

If I had to choose between the two for quality, ABH would be the winner. But for the price, the Soho brush is a worthy opponent. Especially since it came with two other brushes that I really love.

Not That
  • ELF Small Angled Brush: This was the first brush I ever used on my brows. It actually does a pretty good job. The thing is...even though it is super cheap, it's just not as good as the other two. It's not a solid "don't get this product, ever" for me. It's not horrible at all. But the other two brushes are just far superior to this one. If you want an "ok" brush, this is your guy. But if you want a really great brush...this one doesn't quite cut it. It's the most narrow of the three, and the thickest. It's harder to get a nice line with it...when using it on the tail, it gets rather messy. If you're a fan of having to clean up your brows after doing them, you may not mind that. However, I don't like having to do that.
Elf Small Angled Brush. I struggled to get a good picture, but
I think you can tell it's not as sharp and flat as the other two.

Let me know if you guys have tried any of these brushes, and what you think of them! If you end up with one, feel free to leave a link to your post in the comments. Don't forget to check out my other posts from this series:

First Impression: NUME Hair Mask

I received a trial of this hair mask in my latest Ipsy bag. I've heard great things about NUME, but I've never tried any of their products because, let's be honest, they're freakin expensive. I tried to find this exact product on their website, but I wasn't able to locate it. I don't know the exact cost of a full size, but I'm guessing it's somewhere between $20-$35. I just bought a jar of my usual Organix mask for $5. Mmmmhmmm. I used this the same way I usually use my hair masks: I shampooed/conditioned as normal, then applied it to my hair and left it on for a couple of hours. After rinsing it out, I wrapped my hair in a towel until just damp. Then I sprayed my Redken heat protector on before blowdrying.

Don't mind my wrinkly fingers...I take long showers!

The Pros:
  • It really left my hair feeling great. Soft and silky.

The Cons:
  • It smells like a rose garden and/or funeral home. I hate floral scents. Some of you may consider that a pro. I do not!
  • When drying & flat ironing my hair, it gave off a very chemical/burning smell. Borderline scary.
  • My hair looks a little flat. No shine like I'm used to with other hair masks.
  • It tastes terrible (haha...don't ask!).
  • There was not a lot of product in the trial. I wish there was just a little bit more. It didn't cover from root to tip, so I mostly used it from the middle of the hair shaft to the tips. My scalp and roots went product-less.
The Verdict/An Open Letter to NUME:
When the cons outweigh the pros, it's safe to say the product isn't for me. However...if anyone out there at NUME is listening...can you be a bit more generous with your samples? How is anyone supposed to give your products a fair try when the trial size doesn't cover a full head of hair?! And your pricing is absurd. I mean...when you are having 70% off sales left and right, giving free products to gurus all the time, and everyone and their mama has a coupon code for $150 or more off... Wouldn't it make more sense to just lower your prices a little bit and keep them consistent? I know I, for one, would be more apt to make a purchase if I knew everyone was getting the same price across the board and I didn't have to wait to be "lucky enough" to receive free products or 70% off. Just sayin.

Face Five Challenge

Thanks so much to Tanya from Leopard Lace and Cheesecake for tagging me in this challenge! I was so curious about this ever since seeing her tease it on Instagram. I thought...what is this? Five makeup looks? A full face of makeup in five minutes? I was so wrong! And once I was tagged, my little wheels went spinning.

This is a tag put together by Tanya, Shalunya from Shalunya & BoyetBetti from Makeup AsylumAshley from Ashley Maria, and Keisha from The Chrysalis Gals. The challenge? A full face of makeup with only FIVE items! So take some time to visit all these lovely ladies and thank them for this death-defying challenge!!

The Rules:
  •  Use Five and only Five products to create a complete makeup look.
  • Each different product counts as one product. Multipurpose products count as one product (Benetint, Bombshell The One Stick, Nars Multipurpose Stick, etc).
  • No palettes are allowed. No trios, quads, or multi-shade palettes.
  • Tag Five others to complete the Face Five Challenge.
  • Have Fun!

What I Used:
  • Mac Studio Fix Fluid Foundation.
  • Makeup Forever Aquabrow #25: Brows, Eye Shadow Base, contouring, and to line my water line.
  • Sugarpill eye shadow in 2 A.M.: On the lid, to smudge out the lower lash line, blush, and lips. *This is part of a quad, but I only used one shadow.
  • Bare Minerals Flawless Definition mascara.
  • Physicians Formula Eye Booster Eye Liner in Ultra Black.

The Result:
I was happy to be able to do the challenge. My whole face looked rather dark, which I didn't like too much. You can't tell that as much from the photo because it's taken in natural light with my front-cam. Now...if I was on vacation and forgot to take some things with me (as is normally the case), I like knowing that I can improvise like this. But it's probably not something I would leave the house with. I just feel a little unfinished! Thanks again to Tanya for tagging me! If you guys haven't checked her blog out yet, please do! Her blog is so fun to read. She does all kinds of beauty reviews, fashion - including really great "looks for less" posts, and even some recipes! Make sure you visit her :)

The Empties

Hey all! So....I have two empties this time. Exciting, huh?! I cheated a little because I photographed the first empty and never got around to posting about it. So now that I've gotten to a second item, I'm forcing myself to blog about it!

  •  Enkore Brush Soap in Tangerine: I really love this stuff. It makes cleaning brushes soooo easy and quick. You can see in the picture above, all that's left of it is the loofa side. When it's un-empty, the loofa is attached to a piece of soap. So you lather up on one side, and scrub if necessary on the other side. It smells delicious, and gets your brushes really clean and soft. I think I got this in August and it lasted me until now. It would've run out about six weeks ago, but I started using my Lush cleaners and didn't use this little guy as much.  So for about $13 including shipping, you get about 4-5 months worth of use. I like to clean my brushes a lot, especially since I'll wear bright green one day, then neutrals the next, then hot pink after I can't keep my brushes clean enough! One thing I didn't like, is that you obviously have to rinse off the loofa side after getting product all in it. But in doing so, you lose a little of the soap, too.

  • Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel: Dermalogica is a brand I really trust. I received the jumbo size of this stuff as a gift a while ago, and it's really what got me into skin care. When I went to buy myself a bottle, I was a little sticker-shocked. I know Dermalogica is not cheap, but still...! This trial size was $10. I just went for it because I was leaving on a trip and needed cleanser. The 8.4 oz will run you about $35. This cleanser really works for me. I like the consistency, but it doesn't foam up a whole lot. I like foam...what can I say.

The Verdict:
I would've hands-down repurchased both of these products if I ran out a few months ago. However, I've discovered other products now that I like more. I started using two different Lush products (Rehab Shampoo and Dirty Spring Wash Shower Gel) to clean my brushes, and I just feel like they do a better job...especially with my Beauty Blender. For now, I have another trial-sized Dermalogica cleanser I'm trying out. I also have my Philosphy Purity cleanser. But I do really want to go back to Lush for my next cleanser. I'm starting to have a bit of a Lush problem. That being said, I still do highly recommend both of these products, and I may eventually purchase them again. Who knows?!

Julep Maven Introductory Box

Hello everyone! For a long time now, I've been teetering on the idea of subscribing to the Julep Maven Box. I even signed up on their site, created my profile, and took the quiz. Then, I backed out of subbing. I already subscribe to Ipsy, and I don't want to have all these different boxes rolling in. I feel like that eats up my makeup money and I want to be able to shop impulsively ;)

BUT THEN...Jackie at Five Two Certified posted her latest box and I fell in love. Such great products! They could've been in MY mail box!

So I bit the bullet and subscribed. Like with Ipsy, they have you fill out a personality quiz. Also like with Ipsy...I answered the quiz honestly and the result was something I didn't care for. I keep having to go back and manipulate my answers on Ipsy so that I get products I'm more excited about. But with Julep, they let you know what your results are (I'm an It Girl), but let you opt for one of the other boxes instead. I chose Boho Glam. For people that know me...this might sound strange. I'm not a fan of the Boho trend in the slightest. However, the shades they showed were the most appealing to me. For the monthly boxes, they send out an email letting you know what to expect, and you have a few days to log on to chose a different box if you prefer. So it's not as big of a surprise as Ipsy, but I'm the kind of girl that tears through the house looking for my Christmas and birthday presents before my husband has a chance to wrap them. He's had to get creative and hide them at work. But I digress...

Shades from L to R:
Bunny, Elle, Libby

Follow this link and use code "FREEBOX" to get started free(ish)! I paid $3.99 shipping for my free box, but I think it was definitely worth it!! You may already know that I've recently fallen in love with white polish on my toes (not my hands, I find that gross). The plum shade is really gorgeous, and that tealy-green is beautiful! At first I was like, "these little file blocks suck." But I think I'll still get some good use out of them when I polish my toes. And now I have to sit here and wait for my next box! Ughhhhh...torture!

Mini First Impression: Get This/Not That

Hey all...these are two products I've been hearing a lot about recently. I had the chance to swing by Sephora today and swatched two shades of each brand. Sidenote: You should all be very proud of me because I walked out without spending any money! After letting the swatches fare through the day, I wanted to quickly give my thoughts on both. I was surprised to see which I actually liked best! I decided to turn it into a mini Get This/Not That ;)

Get This

Smashbox Always Sharp Waterproof Kohl Liners: I saw Tiffany D (Makeup By Tiffany D on YouTube) mention these liners in a recent video. I don't think I've tried anything from Smashbox before, or at least in several years. I was surprised at how much I ended up liking them...these liners did NOT budge. My hubbs and I were out for the whole day and I washed my hands several times. This photo was taken after at least my second hand wash. The top two swatches are the Smashbox liners. You can see that even though the second shade is a little faded, it's still a solid line. The top shade had the most staying power.  The color range is mostly dark, but all very pretty. They come in 3D and regular, with 3D being their shimmery shades. I'll definitely be ordering the Smashbox liners. I rarely find colored liners that are both lovely and long-lasting. Plus they're self-sharpening, so you always have a nice point. I'm in love!!

Smashbox: Cabana
Smashbox: 3D Pacific
Stila: Canary
Stila: Mint Julep

Not That

Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liners: I thought I was going to fall in love with these! I've seen both xSparkage and Queen of Blending rave about them! However, these swatches had no staying power! Even before washing my hands, they were fading. How is something supposed to withstand my waterline if it can't survive being untouched?! I really wanted to love these, because the shades are so unique and beautiful. Sadly, they just don't cut it for me. They also had gorgeous shades in their liquid liner, but the testers were completely dry and I wasn't able to swatch them. So disappointing!

Well hello there! I think my nail lady is mad at me. I keep finding these little ideas on Pinterest, and she just looks at me like, "someone take this girl's phone away NOW!" But this latest mani was so cute, even she had to admit she liked it. We're winning her over, folks!

As usual, since it's the salon's gel polish, I don't know the names of the colors. But I just had her use a light pink as the base and then a hot pink for the little half moons. I wanted to go pink & red, but it's so soon after Valentine's Day and I felt like I was a little late to the party doing that. This at least passes on me just being super girly. I'm starting a new job next week (yay!), and I also wanted to find something that wasn't too far out there, but kind-of sets the tone for me being one of those girls that is thisclose to going overboard with the nails. ;)

Review: Miscellaneous Lush Products

Over the past year, I've gotten more and more into Lush. It started off with various Bath Bombs. Then they took over my life. I've been slowly transitioning my skin care over to Lush products. Along the way, I accumulated a few samples. I wanted to do a quick Samples Review, even though it always seems a little jerky when I review samples. I'll take one for the team this time.

  • Gorgeous Moisturizer: OhhhhhhMG. This is heaven in cream form. I don't know what they put in it, but it's seriously miraculous. Within a couple days, it transforms your skin. I've actually gotten two samples because I love it so much. However, the full size is soooo expensive! I just am not sure if I can bring myself to spend that kind of money!! I figure if I can get a couple samples here and there, when I do bite the bullet and buy the full size, it'll be like "get 50% more product free!" But in advance. Still with me?
  • Mint Julips Lip Scrub: This stuff is so yummy! I love the scrubby feeling and the minty taste. However, I'm not a lip scrub kind of girl. I actually just exfoliate my lips with a toothbrush. So I can't spend money on a separate lip scrub. I want try making my own, though, because it is pretty nice. But I'm the kind of DIY girl that just thinks about doing things but doesn't really do them. I'm really going on tangents today, huh?!
  • R & B Leave-In Conditioner: I'm not sure about this one. It does have a strong scent, but I like it. Full disclosure, I don't like normal scents. So don't order this on my word, because you may hate me for it. I'm not sure if it works or not. I use it mostly on days where my hair has extra fly-aways. It does smooth out my hair nicely but I don't use it regularly enough to judge if it's reparative or not.
  • Vanishing Cream Moisturizer: This is the only product I don't really love. I may just not have given it a fair try. I think I only used it twice.  I just didn't feel like it was particularly moisturizing. I ended up applying another moisturizer (Enzymion) afterwards. The smell is kind-of fresh yet stale at the same time. It's so hard to describe. Maybe I'll just try to use the rest of it, but when I have Enzymion and's hard to find something I like better.

Ipsy Glam Bag: February 2014

Another month, another glam bag! I overall like my bag. I'll have to try a couple of the items out, but they look interesting, and I think I might like it all. Here is what I got:

NUME Hair Mask: I haven't tried any NUME products yet, but I've heard a lot of good things about the brand. Plus, I can always use a good hair mask. I'll be using this one this weekend, for sure!

Eyetini Shadow Tint in Spiced Rum (see swatch): I've never heard of this brand. It actually took me a while to figure out the name of the brand because it's not listed on the tube and the bottom sticker says something about "The Eday Group." What the heck is that?! I finally put two and two together when I saw the little martini logo on the lid and referenced that to the card that comes inside the bag. That's a lot of work! Anyway...the color is really pretty, and dries to a non-smudgable finish. After swatching it on my hand, I let it dry and tried rubbing it a little...that stuff ain't goin nowhere!! I'll definitely give it a try soon. This will actually be gorgeous as a base for gold glitter.

Zoya Nail Polish in Odette: When I first pulled this out of the box, I was like, "ewwww!" But the more I look at it, the more I'm warming up to it. It's a funky purple shade my mom usually refers to as "wino vomit." But y'all know how I am with vomit colors. I dig em. This will be front and center on my toes as soon as spring rolls around!

Pop Beauty Lipgloss in Peony Petal: I'm not a fan of this brand at all. When I saw this in my bag, I was like, "ok, that's it! I'm canceling Ipsy!" But the rest of the bag won me over. So I may or may not use this. Or give it away. I'm just not sure. So there is no swatch for this one because I don't know if I will open it yet! BUT, please check out "Ipsy, Is It Worth It?" by Shalunya for a swatch of this gloss plus a complete break down of the value of this month's bag.

City Color Be Matte Blush in Fresh Melon (see swatch): This is suuuuuch a beautiful color! I love it and I can't wait to put it on my face! I've not heard of the brand before, but I'm all for new blushes.

City Color: Fresh Melon blush
Eyetini: Spiced Rum shadow tint

Bought It/Forgot It

Hey all! This has become one of my favorite posts to do. It really lets me fall back in love with some of my old products that I haven't used in a while. Other times, it reminds me why I've replaced my old favorites with new ones! I'll start with the things I remembered over the past month ;)

I was really happy to have used these products, because I really did get good use out of all of them. I used the mascara until it started getting too dry. But it served as a reminder that it was a really great mascara! They call it "clump crusher" for a works. I love using it as a last step after other mascaras for some extra separation.

The Sleek Blush By 3, I used a lot more than I'd been using. I have to admit, I only reached for it when I kept it right on my counter. Once I put it away, I fell back into my Nars habit. I couldn't help it! But I do still love all three of the blushes.

My Naked 2 palette, I probably got the least use out of. I just decided I don't really LOVE it. I like it...we're just friends though. I really had to try to use this one, where the other two items, I could easily incorporate. I did manage to use it a lot more than I normally do, so mission accomplished! At the bottom of this post, I'll include some pics of me wearing these products.

And now...what I need to remember for the month ahead!

MAC Cosmetics Eye Shadow Palette in Spoiled Rich. This one was from the Archie's Girls collection. I went in for the event thinking "I'm a Betty, with Veronica tendencies." Once the MUA finished my makeup using this quad, I realized, "Nope...I'm a full-blown Veronica!" I really love this little quad but I fell off using it after a little while. I admit...I did already use the lightest pink/purple shade this past weekend, which is what inspired me to include it in this month's BI/FI.

Makeup Forever Technicolor Eye Shadow Palette. I fell in love with this product online. When I got it, I realized the colors were a little more muted than I anticipated. They're still gorgeous shades, but you know... It's like when you forget what you're drinking, and you expect to sip Coca Cola out of the straw but you get iced tea instead. No matter how much you love iced tea, at that moment, it tastes nasty!

Urban Decay Cream Highlight in Wicked. I'm starting to think that BI/FI is my subconscious trying to make me use up my UD products. I got this little guy from HauteLook a long time ago. I forgot how much I had used it until I cracked it open for the photo and there's a little dent in it! So I'm a little excited, because that must mean I loved it at some point. First world problems.

N2 shadows on the lid. Sugarpill Midori and Acidberry on the lower lash line.
I also used Clump Crusher mascara & some combination of the Sleek Blushes.

I wasn't thrilled about this one, but I tried! I tried to create a soft wing.
I wouldn't say I failed miserably. But I wasn't super happy, either.

First Impression: Dose of Colors

Some of you may know that I did a "no-buy" in January (sort of). And you may also know that I finally made my first Dose of Colors purchase on February 1st! I waited the entire month of January for this little haul. I did my research, watched YouTube videos, scoured Instagram, and finally chose my items. I wanted to try so many things, but I finally settled on one each from their lipsticks, lip gloss, and lashes. If you're not familiar with Dose of Colors, it's a fairly new brand founded by "MakeupByAnna" on Instagram. I've heard rave reviews on all of their products, and I've been dying to check them out. I'm not a very lip-glossy kind of girl, but DoC's glosses are said to be very pigmented, and all the pictures and videos I've seen of their products look great. So I wanted to check them out for myself. Plus their shades are stunnnning! Here is what I ended up with:

The Pros:
  • The gloss is very pigmented, just like everyone said.
  • No weird smells.
  • The lipstick  is very creamy and also great pigmentation.
  • The lashes are amazing...absolutely a must-have.
Dose of Colors Lip Gloss in Attitude
Dose of Colors Lipstick in Dark Secrets

The Cons:
  • A little pricey. When I was adding things to my cart, I was like, "yeah, no problem!" Then when I checked out, I thought..."did I really just pay that much for lashes?!"
  • The applicator on the gloss is a little strange. It's like a very tiny doe-foot applicator. I kind-of like it because you can be very precise. But at the same's a bit odd.
  • The lipstick stains a lot. After removing my makeup, my lips were still very bright pink.
  • The gloss, at least for me, can't be worn alone like a lot of people claim. You can still see my natural lips peeking through. Maybe my lips are freakishly pigmented? I don't know.
  • It's always a little scary to purchase something online without ever having seen it in person. Although I'm not disappointed with anything, I would love if they were available at Sephora or something, where I could play with them and test out the colors instead of having to try to find someone on YouTube with my coloring...not an easy task.

The Verdict:
I'm happy with the products I have, and would certainly recommend them to a friend. However, they're not my favorites, and I would have to really want a specific shade in order to purchase from them again. That being said...I want two specific shades and probably will buy them at some point ;) I did have to re-apply the gloss midway through the morning, after lunch, and midway through the afternoon. I'm not used to doing that, so it was a little annoying. I'm used to wearing lipstick that lasts all day, and maybe have to touch up after lunch. I'll definitely wear the gloss with lipstick underneath from now on, so it'll hopefully cut down on having to do touch-ups.

First Love
Oh.. You remember what it was like to fall in love for the first time. Such bliss and excitement! Who was your first love?
The only product I used faithfully in my younger days was Covergirl pressed face powder. I hated makeup, but I'm an oily girl.

Puppy Love
Before you knew your real love, there were those childhood crushes that sometimes blossomed into a cute puppy love. Who was yours?
Lipsmackers, of course! I had one called Marshmallow, which was probably the first lip product I ever used up.

Love Triangle
Such a predicament. This one is so sweet and demure, but this one is so bold and sexy. Tell us about being torn between two lovers. Who were the players in your love triangle?
This is a recent one! Everyone knows how much I love MUFE's Aqua Brow. But I purchased Anastasia Beverly Hills Dip Brow and I'm in love! Currently, I'm using both together. I'm not sure I can give either of them up.

Current Love
Dating? Engaged? Married? Who is your main squeeze? Tell us about the one you can't live without or can't seem to let go of. Who is your current love?
I have a couple! I'm with Shalunya on the Physicians Formula Eye Booster liner. I suck at wings, but this little guy makes it look like I halfway know what I'm doing. The other is my Nars One Night Stand cheek palette. I'm so glad I invested in it!!

Secret Crush
Even though you're committed to your current love, looking around and admiring from afar never hurt anyone... Who are you secretly crushing on?
My Sleek Blush By 3 palette in Sugar. I'm so happy I put this on my Bought It/Forgot It list this month. I've been loving the warmer cheeks for winter.

Blind Date
Which was The One that was introduced by a friend or mailbox company e.g Ipsy that you love?
My friend sent me the Lorac Pro Palette lately and I've really been loving it. I reach for it even when I'm not intending to use it. It's really new to my collection, but it's already gotten a lot of love!

Steamy Affair
Which was The One that you left your steadfast regular for; the sexy, handsome one that caught your eye and had you hooked in a Steamy Affair with?
Viva Glam V lip gloss. This is my most re-purchased product ever. I've never been one to go back more than once for a lip product...especially a gloss. But I think I'm on my fifth tube of this stuff. Which is crazy because I rarely wear a nude lip. I don't know how I use so much of  it!

Sweet Temptation
Which was The One that has snagged your attention but you are only tempted by, you don't know yet whether you want a Steamy Affair or not with?
This is more like "the one that got away," because it's no longer available and I'm devastated. But it's Anastasia Beverly Hills Lavish Palette. I soooo wanted this and I kept not buying it because it was rather pricey. When I finally decided I was ready to take the plunge, it was gone. I'm very upset about it and I don't want to talk about it anymore.

Love At First Sight
You saw it and immediately you loved it.
Sugarpill's loose shadow in Smitten! Also a new purchase (I'm probably doing that a lot because they're fresh on my mind).

Double Date
They came in a box set; two great things for the price of one.
I don't usually buy box sets so I can't recall anything right now. I did get a gift with purchase when I got my Peace Love Juicy perfume, which included a mini of their Viva La Juicy. I hadn't tried that one yet and ended up loving it. I'll have to pretend it was a box set so I have an answer to this one! :)

Friend Zone
You just knew he was amazing; but he's not all that. Who have you relegated to the friend zone?
Urban Decay in general. I'm just not that into you.

Worst Breakup
You wanted to love him forever; but you quickly discovered that he was not 'Mr. Right.' In fact he was awful and broke your heart. Who was your worst breakup?
The Balm skin care. I never want to see you again!

Total Loser
You were giddy when he asked you out. You had high hopes for a long relationship. Instead he was a complete dud. Who was your total loser?
The Naked 3 Palette.

Long Lost Love
You were young and he was among your firsts. You grew, you moved on, you two lost touch with each other. Recently you bumped into each other again and you remembered all the reasons you liked him. Who is your long lost love?
Mac Cosmetics as a whole. I stopped buying Mac a long time ago because everything I ended up with was limited edition and I couldn't get it when I wanted to repurchase. I hated that, so I boycotted them (minus my VG5 gloss...I couldn't stay away). But a little over a year ago, I bought Ruby Woo, and it was downhill from there.

Major Lust
You haven't yet met. You're just loving him from afar because you feel like he's out of your league. Who is your major lust?
So many brands I want to try but don't necessarily want to pay for! Tom Ford, Armani, YSL (even though I do have one lipstick...I really want their mascara and foundation), Guerlain...the list goes on.

Double NOTD

It finally happened. I took the plunge and went acrylic-free! It feels very strange, but I hope I'll grow to love it. My natural nails are normally very thick and durable. But after four years of acrylic...they are now paper thin. I really want to restore them to their former glory, and keep the acrylics off for good! As usual...I don't know the name of this color. It's a really pretty blue with turquoise specks. it is:

And now for my pedi! I rarely match my hands and toes. I just do my own pedis and I like to switch it up. What I love about this pedi is that there is a mix of matte, shiny, and glitter. Plus I love this puke green color. I don't know why, but there's something about the split pea vomit color that just appeals to me!

I used the streak-free method I recently posted about, because the Zoya polish was pretty streaky. I wasn't sure if it would work as well because I've never tried it with a matte polish. But it actually worked really well! So I'm happy. I used the glitter polish I got from Vero Says' giveaway. It goes perfectly with the green...I'm in love with it! And you can't tell too well but on my middle toe, I used a shiny top coat, just to mix textures.

  • Zoya Mitzi (matte)
  • Julep Shoshanna (glitter)
  • Nails Inc Westminster Bridge (matte top coat)

Swatch: Viva Glam Rihanna Lipstick

I haven't done many "swatch" posts outside of reviews/first impressions. I think I'm going to try to get more swatches out there for y'all. So stay tuned! Here's a quick swatch of Viva Glam Rihanna. I believe this shade will be available for a full year at MAC. Which means I will probably cave at some point and go back for the lip gloss. As with every Viva Glam lipstick or lip gloss, all proceeds go to the Mac Aids Fund.

January 2014 Favorites and Unfavorites

I think it just occurred to me that I haven't been including the year on my favorites posts. Rookie blogger mistake! I'll try to remember that from now on. Also, I'm trying something new...adding Unfavorites to my end-of-month post.

Even though I was on an Unofficial No-Buy this month, I managed to snag some things with gift cards, and I did allow myself a couple of LE items. So I do have favorites to share. Yaaaaaaaay! What would I do without favorites?! And I got a couple of things from HauteLook at the end of December which I started trying out this month. Which is why I sadly have Unfavorites to speak of :(

I have a lot of products between favorites & unfavorites this month, so I won't go into anything in-depth. But I will definitely post swatches, reviews, etc on my favorites if I haven't gotten to them already.

Let's start with the good stuff...

And now...the disappointments :(

  • The Balm Skincare: These three items did nothing for my skin. I take that back. They ruined my face. At December's end, I had probably the clearest skin I'd had in a very long time. This month, I had all kinds of breakouts. I usually get one hormonal breakout a month. Redness here and there. Little bumps off and on. This month, I had at least one big giant glaring zit every few days. It's ridiculous. My redness is the worst it's been in months. I'm so upset, because I really was looking forward to trying these items. And now I have to work harder to reverse the damage. I decided I was too sad to write a whole review on these, but if y'all want to see a full review, let me know. I'll be switching back to my tried and true products now that my stupid no-buy is over.
